My mom had her brow tattooed some years back and now the color has faded and the tattoo is now greyish (sometimes bluish). My mom doesn't use makeup regularly—face powder and lipstick are the only things she apply. She recently wanted to add another cosmetic to her very minimal makeup routine and that's the eyebrow pencils just so her brows don't look too awkward. This is what she (usually I because I apply it for her) uses:

Kanebo Media Eyebrow Pencil in Dark Brown

When I was in Tokyo last January, I made sure I buy some eye products to try. I've been loving most of the Japanese beauty products I've used so far so I just bought whatever it is I find that is within my budget.

While I was somewhere in Shibuya, I went to one store that sells variety of cosmetics. While browsing their collection, I found this very affordable eye brow pencil and when I say affordable, it's around PhP 300 or maybe PhP 200 or even less when converted. I can't remember how much exactly.

So here's a product description from AlphaBeauty.net:

A basic, easy to use eyebrow pencil with soft touch, the oval pencil tip allows drawing of different thickness of lines. Easily removed by (Kanebo) eye makeup remover, available separately from our store.

Available in Grey, Natural Brown, and Dark Brown...

Other than being so affordable, I am liking how it looks. It's so small and thin that it's so easy to carry, especially when travelling. It's only like 4-5 inches in length.  The design is pretty simple with it's very dark blue shade and metallic labels. I like that it's a twist-up kind of pencil so there's no need to sharpen it.

With it's cheap price, you actually get a decent amount of product. It's pretty much the same length as those you get from more familiar Korean brands. Although I do think Kanebo is pretty familiar already although the media collection (or is this a sub-brand like KATE) is pretty new to me. If you do know, please comment below so I can edit. Thanks. :)

Here are the swatches.

I like how light it is even when you try to build it up. It avoids creating harsh lines and too strong brows. I can see how it can create more natural looking brows, especially if you are on the lighter skin tone and finer brow hair.

Unfortunately for me, I have dark and thick brow hair as seen on the photo above.

And with the product applied, it doesn't look good at all. For one, I seriously need a brow mascara first. And two, the consistency of this brow pencil is too waxy (wax crayon-like) that it even coats my brow hair and make them stick together. This just doesn't sit well on my brows. At all. :(

As much as I want to like everything I found in Tokyo, this is just one of the worst brow products I've tried. I guess it would work well on people who have thinner brow hair, but there are other affordable pencils who can do the job better. This is just not good, at least for me.

Ever Bilena: Matic Brow Liner in Earth

Good evening ladies,

Last Wednesday, Dawn attended the Ever Bilena event at Whitespace Manila and she has gave me a choice to take one of the products given to her for me to try out and review. 

Of course, since I've really sparse eyebrow hair, I went with the Matic Brow Liner in Earth.

So this is a retractable brow liner (as the name suggests) and comes in two colors, Earth and Midnight.

Below are the ingredients of this liner:

Cyclopentasiloxane , Paraffin, Diisostearyl Dimer Dilinoleate , PEG - 6 Beeswax, Ozokerite, Hydrogenatred Castor Oil, Ceresin, Tocopherol, Retinyl Palmitate, Ascorbyl Palmitate, May contain : Mica (CI 77019) , Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891) Red Iron Oxide (CI 77491) , Yellow Iron Oxide (CI 77492), Black iron Oxide (CI 77499), Bismuth OXychloride (CI 77163)

The pencil is soft and creamy in consistency. You need to keep the tip short if you are heavy handed as it can break easily.

I did 3 different strokes for the swatch, the top one is somewhat of an in-between heavy and light stroke. Middle is the more heavy handed stroke (where I broke the tip of the pencil). Lastly, the bottom is the feathery stroke which is recommended for filling in your brows.

Below is the picture after smudging it a bit. As you can see, it's not smudge proof. If you have the habit of scratching your eyebrows (for any reason), you might want to bring this along with you for retouching purposes.

Ok so here is my brow without any product. As you can see, I have sparse and thin eyebrow hair, which are just barely visible if seen from afar.

Now here is my brow after filling it in with the matic brow liner.

I do have to say that I found it a little hard to balance the application. I have a hard time doing the feather strokes and I'm a little more heavy handed when doing my brows. This is one of the reasons why I prefer powders to pencils. But if I do go for pencils, I prefer less creamier ones.

So this is not really much of a favorite of mine. Though it is quite easy to use, and in my case, it being not smudge-proof worked as I was trying to balance it out.

Below are pictures after 7 hours of wear. It tends to fade out as soon as your face starts getting oily. Sorry about the stark difference in skin color, I used a different light source for the 7 hours later.

I kind of expected it to be like this that's why I used it for just that day, since I did not have to be at the office for the whole day. 

This is a fairly affordable eyebrow liner however, I feel like I won't be buying it again if it ever ran out. The liner costs somewhere between 180 to 200 while my current everyday liner costs a mere 100 and performs a little bit better than this one.

Miniso BlowLash EX24 Perfect Waterproof Eyebrow Pencil in Red Brown

I chose the shade Red Brown because I just colored my hair in the shade Red Wine when I bought this.

So first, let's get to know the product from the product descriptions.

The Auto Eyebrow Pencil is waterproof, the triangle shaped lead center is easy to manage. Create flawless arches with this eyebrow pencil, great colors, long lasting and natural looking.

The product is double-ended. One end has the brow pencil that you twist-up, while the other end is a spoolie brush to help with the blending.

The design is just okay considering the price. For me it doesn't feel sturdy compared to other double-ended twist-up brow liners I've tried, especially the spoolie part. 

It is true that the triangular shaped pencil "lead" makes it easier to control the lines you create. The slimmer side is great for thin lines especially at the outer parts of the brow while the thicker end makes filling in the brows easier.

The color is not too intense which is ideal in creating a more natural-looking brow. It doesn't look like it on the swatch, but I find this too waxy.

When smudged with hand, it comes off easily. I don't know why it's called waterproof when it's so easy to remove. I didn't even need water.

My brows are too dark so I still need to use a brow mascara to make this red brown shade work. Applying it was easy except for the part that it's too waxy that it makes my brow hair stick to skin.

Overall, I would pass on this because even though it's very affordable, I think there are other brow pencils that work better for my brows that are near its price. However, this is not a bad product. I still can create a natural looking finish if you have thinner strands of brow hair.

Review : The Face Shop Designing Eyebrow Pencil

When putting on makeup, I try to keep my brows groomed and if needed, shaped using brow makeup, so that my brows can frame my face better. I know many who believe that kilay is life when it comes to ones makeup look, so I try to equip my makeup stash with good brow products.

Each brow pencil is PhP 225.00, but I was able to get it on a Buy 2, get 1 promo.


I bought the darkest shades because I have dark brow hair.

It also contains the ingredients list on a sticker on the bottom cap of the pencil.


The pencil actually has two caps on each end. One has the pencil while the other houses the brow brush that helps you blend the product.

It's a twist-up product and has a triangular shape. It makes it easier to glide the pencil on your brow and will not give you a very sharp, and pointed line. We want a natural looking brow and not a dark and sharp one.


Here are the swatches. From top to bottom: Gray Brown, Brown, Dark Brown

As you can see on the swatches, the lines produced are soft and most importantly, not sharp. It creates soft lines that blend well to fill in the brows without looking harsh. What I did notice though is that it's more pigmented than the brow pencils I've used from other Korean brands.

Well, I really do have dark brow hair. I need a brow mascara to make them blend well. But I do think that The Face Shop Designing Eyebrow Pencils are very easy to work with, affordable, and fills in the brow with a soft finish.

It can last the whole day on my oily skin. I don't touch my face much so that helps a lot there. :P

What I LIKE:

- Affordable

- Locally available

- Soft, but pigmented lines

- Easy to use

- Comes with a brow brush

- Available in five shades

- No need to sharpen

- Long-lasting

- Slim and classy packaging

What I DON'T LIKE:

- Nothing... I do think that it can be more pigmented than what I expected, but just make sure to work it with light hands.

Would I recommend it? Yes!

Miniso: Eyeliner Pencil + Eyebrow Pencil (Grey)

Good evening ladies,

I'd like to share with you a great eyeliner/eyebrow duo for a low price of Php 99 at Miniso. This was a last minute purchase and I did not really know that it was actually a duo, I just asked my sister to pick a grey brow pencil as I needed one to match my current hair color.

Miniso Eyeliner Pencil + Eyebrow Pencil

As you can see in the picture above this is a combination pencil. The eyeliner is more of a felt tip pen type rather than a pencil. These types of products are ones that I prefer buying as its more convenient to bring when you're travelling.

Here is the full ingredients list. Note that this is phthalates-free and paraben-free.

In as far as I know, this comes in two colors: brown and grey.

The felt tip eyeliner is very easy to use. It glides very smoothly over the lids and leaves a full line. The picture to the left shows the line it creates with one stroke. The picture to the left was taken after (very) vigorous rubbing. The product is actually very long lasting and is smudge-resistant. As long as you don't scratch your eyes vigorously, it stays put and does not go all over the place even with moderately oily lids by the end of the day.

The brow pencil is also quite easy to use. It glides smoothly and the color is build-able. The swatch above was taken after 1 swipe. I did not build up the color too much but trust me when I say it gets more pronounced as you add on.

Here is the photo I took at the start of my day. As you can see the eyeliner does a decent job. It does not "flake" and is not watery. It dries quickly enough as well. As for the brow pencil, I try to keep the color minimal to mimic a more natural appearing brow.

Both the eyeliner and brow pencil are long lasting and stays put even with a moderately oily face and lids. It does not leave that black line over your lid folds too. Both photos below were taken 10 hours after application of the product and no retouch was done along the whole day.

If you would look at the photo below, some the eyeliner is a little lighter in color than at the start of the day but the line still remains pretty much solid and smudge free.

Though I have not tried it on somebody with very oily skin so I cannot say if the results will be the same with them.

Clean up is also easy. No repeated scrubbing needed to take it off. Simply wet your Q-tip or cotton with cleansing water or make-up removers and press over your lids for a few seconds and the liner comes of wholly.

Before I summarize my review, I'd like to share other purchases we made at Miniso.

Especially these cute wet/dry headband which are just perfect for keeping your hair out of the way while you put on make-up or mask or when you just want to wash your face without your hair getting wet.

They've little cat ears on top. :)

Anyway, back to the eyeliner + eye brow pencil. I highly recommend considering this product if you're a little short in budget for a good eyeliner or eye brow pencil or as a gift if you'r on a small budget. It's my first time trying make-up sold at a 100 peso store and I'm glad it was a good purchase.
