Review : Ciate London Liquid Chrome Metallic Eyeliner in Celestial

Hey everyone!

I like doing different looks for my eye makeup. I like colors and contrast so recently, I've been adding more eyeliners than usual. I usually pair my black winged eyeliner with another colored eyeliner. It doesn't matter what color or if it's matte or metallic, or glittered. I just apply whatever catches my "fancy."

Now I just wanted to buy and buy more eyeliners. Haha! I try to stop myself when I can but when I see a good deal, I just can't resist anymore and one of the things I bought is this...

Ciate London Liquid Chrome Metallic Eyeliner in Celestial

I have only used one product from Ciate and it's their nail polish. I didn't know what to expect when I put this in my cart while browsing the Sephora website. I bought it for PhP 321.60 while there was a big sale happening. The original price of this is PhP 804.00, which is quite pricey for my pocket and I wouldn't even consider getting it if it's not on sale.

I bought the shade Celestial because I don't have this shade yet. I always think that purple looks good on my eyes.

Here are the product details on the packaging:

Product description from the website:

WHAT IT IS A long wearing, liquid metallic eyeliner that delivers a wash of vivid, gemstone color.
WHAT IT DOES Transform eyes with a swipe of Liquid Chrome™ Metallic Eyeliner’s electrifying color. Formulated with brilliant pearlescent pigments, this liner’s smudge-free, felt-tipped precision applicator allows you to effortlessly highlight eyes with a shock of color.

  • Paraben-free
  • Vegan Friendly
CELESTIAL: Aqua (Water), Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Polyvinyl Acetate, Pentylene Glycol, Sodium Cocoyl/Olivoyl Hydrolyzed Oat/Wheat Protein, Fructosyl Cocoate/Olivate, Alcohol Denat., PVP, Xanthan Gum, Lactic Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Silica, Tin Oxide, Benzoic Acid [+/- : CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), CI 77266 (Black 2), CI 77000 (Aluminum Powder), CI 77499 (Iron Oxides), CI 77491 (Iron Oxides), CI 77492 (Iron Oxides), CI 77510 (Ferric Ferrocyanide), Mica]

The design of the product is pretty good. It's non-bulky and pretty classy-looking. I like that the labels are in metallic so it has a nice contrast with the dark-colored tube.

When you twist the cap open, you get a felt tip applicator. For metallic liners, I appreciate felt tips (for black liquid liners, I like brush tips better) because it can hold more of the liner product which I find are thicker compared to non-metallic or non-glittery ones.

Here's a swatch. What's funny here is this is the first swatch I made with this product but the next swatches I made weren't as pigmented as this. Just try to shake the tube or swirl the applicator inside before taking it out to get more pigment on the applicator.

The product feels lightweight and has a mousse-like consistency. It dries pretty fast too so you don't have to wait long to completely open your eyes to avoid transfer.

I have to comment about the ugly smell of this product. It has a sour-salty smell. You don't smell it when you apply it on the eye area and it's not strong enough unless you actually smell the swatch or the product.

To check on the durability I rubbed the swatch when it has dried:

It stayed in place when I rubbed it with dry fingers.

But when wet, it got smudged away easily. It didn't promise any water resistance, just smudge-free which is pretty accurate as long as you don't expose it to water or your face's natural oils. With a primer and eyeshadows (which can help avoid oily lids), this eyeliner can stay in place.

I was not really impressed with this product because it really takes time to actually get the product look bold and opaque. I had to turn the applicator over and over and then dip again and so on just so that it creates a solid line. If not for that, it would have been great because I like the shade and the little purple glitters it has. I like the felt tip and the light consistency. And I like that it's vegan friendly too. But to be honest, with how much it was priced, I was expecting more. I think I can find a better metallic liquid eyeliners from other brands that are affordable.

To summarize:

What I LIKE:
- Feel lightweight
- Dries fast after application
- Smudge-free
- I like the little glitters
- Packaging
- I like the applicator
- Vegan friendly

What I DON'T LIKE:
- The product is not pigmented enough, you have to work your way by swirling the applicator wand inside the tube to gather more of the product
- I think it's pricey for its quality
- Doesn't smell good

And that's all I can say about the Ciate London Liquid Chrome Metallic Eyeliner. Have you tried this yet? Did you encounter the same experience? Let me know at the comment section below!
