Get to Know Dr. Morita Mask Sheets—One of Asia's Bestselling Mask Sheets

Hello loves!

For the longest time, I've mostly been exposed to Korean skincare sheet masks. Although I have used a few from other places, but to be honest, I wasn't really interested in them until this year. Before, I would use a sheet like once or twice a month only and I didn't even care what kind of mask it was. I have oily skin and living in a highly humid country so I never felt like my skin needed extra hydration.  I actually I just know that sheet masks hydrates my skin and pretty much acted as a moisturizer so why use it if I already have a moisturizer in my routine?

It changed when I went to countries with dryer climates and I actually felt the sting of the cold air, but I came prepared because I brought with me some mask sheets that I used every night. I really felt the difference on my skin when I walk under the dry weather.

And then I found out that even if I have oily skin, I can still have dehydrated skin! That's when your skin doesn't get enough moisture that it needs. Having acne-prone skin, I have used skincare products such as acids that help dry up acne and peel off scars and other skin imperfections. Also, I'm guilty of not taking in the prescribed amount of drinking water daily. Let's remember that our body is made up of mostly water so we have to make sure that we replenish the moisture it needs.

Here enters Dr. Morita, a brand from Taiwan that specializes in skincare, particularly mask sheets. Their masks are the no.1 bestselling sheet masks in Hong Kong and in Taiwan. The brand is now available via Watsons and SM Beauty and they held an event to celebrate the good news. In this event, I was able to learn from Dr. Chun Hsu Jou, the brand's CEO himself, more about how our skin can improve by doing just two important things...

But before I tell you what they are, let's get to know the brand first. ;)

Here's a quick summary from the press release:

"This skin care brand was established in Taiwan in 1934. The Morita Department Store was a retail operation that specialized in skin care products. After many years of skin care research and development, Dr. Morita took product development further by setting up a research center in Japan. Dr. Morita sheet masks with premium ingredients were developed in this facility in the year 2000, more than a decade before sheet masks were considered trendy!
Today, Dr. Morita is one brand under the umbrella of Dr. Jou Biotech headquartered in Taiwan. It has offices in Japan, Shanghai, and Hong Kong, with products available in Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, and now, the Philippines!"

I was lucky enough to be invited to attend the press event wherein Dr. Jou himself introduced to us the brand's history and products. It was fascinating how Dr. Jou turned their family business into what it is today. He used his knowledge and skills as a medical doctor and a PhD holder. Besides being the CEO of Dr. Jou Biotech Co., LTD., he is also a member of the Taiwan Association of Aesthetic Medicine and Surgery; Master trainer on Injection Filler of Hyaluronic Acid, certified by Galderama Pharmacy in France; and Master trainer on injection filler of Radiesse, certified by Merz Pharmacy. With all these credentials, he leads the research and development department of the brand's products. He and his team developed over ten patented ingredients and has published academic researches as well.

With all the effort and dedication he has put in his products, it's no wonder that he proudly introduced his sheet masks to us during the event. Dr. Jou came with his team as well as a representative from Watsons, Ms. Janelle de Leon, who gave an introduction on how confident Watsons is to carry Dr. Morita mask sheets.

During the press event, Dr. Jou talked about the benefits of using sheet masks. I personally was confused at first because Dr. Morita is a skincare brand that mostly, if not entirely, carries mask sheets. I'm so used to seeing things such as lotions, moisturizers, serums, etc., so why just sheet masks, right? Just to make it clear, I'm not saying that as a skincare brand, you need to have all those. I was just curious and puzzled, but Dr. Jou gave an informative presentation and even made me excited to try their products!

Now I go back to what I mentioned earlier in this post. Dr. Jou said that we need to do two important things to keep our skin in good condition and these are

1. Exercise
- We need to maintain a high metabolic rate.

2. Drink water
- We have to replenish our body by staying well-hydrated and this also leads to a higher metabolic rate

So what's the deal with our metabolic rate and our skin? A high metabolic rate means faster creation of new cells which leads to radiant and plump skin. As we age, the metabolic rate decreases so we need to support it by doing the two things Dr. Jou advised.

What surprised me is he didn't even mention using skincare or plugged his product as he gave these advice. He says that you have to take care of what's inside first to stay healthy.

But of course, we can support the improvement of skin through skincare too and that's where the masks come in. Dr. Morita carries different variants that addresses certain issues but overall, they are all moisturizing.

The three masks on the photo above are the bestsellers globally, although in the Philippines, the whitening masks are selling faster because of our beauty standard (majority of the Pinoys tend to like whiter skin).

Let's get to know the masks first. The press release provided a short description for each masks:

They provided tips on how to use the masks too!

Cleanse your face. Apply mask on the face and leave it for 10-15 minutes. Remove and
gently massage around the face area for the essence to be fully absorbed by the skin. No
need to rinse off.
● Dr. Chun Hsu Jou, third generation of the brand’s founding family shares that their sheet
masks already have toner, lotion, and serum. Those with dry skin may apply moisturizing serum or cream, if so desired. Hurray for one-step skin care!
● Dr. Jou also recommends using Dr. Morita sheet masks before going to bed for revitalized skin in the morning.
● Don’t let the excess leftover essence in the sheet mask package go to waste. Use it on your face and neck the next morning or night.
● Don’t leave sheet masks on for more than the recommended time, as it will result in
“reverse osmosis,” leaving your skin drier than the ideal.
● Going on a trip? Sheet masks are a great travel-friendly skin care option!

● Consider using a sheet mask daily for better results.

Dr. Jou said that it would be best if you can use a mask everyday. Some people, especially in Japan and Korea who have colder and drier climates, even use two masks per day. When applying the mask, first thing to do is to start with the nose then the eye area because the smoother this area, the younger you look. Another thing to do is massage your face upwards although not massaging after using the mask is still okay.
If you're aiming for whiter skin, Dr. Jou gave a tip on how to use the whitening masks and that is the 2-1 Usage which means use the whitening masks for two consecutive days and then on the third day, use the Hyaluronic Acid Essence Mask.

It was such an informative afternoon and even though I've been exploring skincare products for years now, a deeper understanding from people who know their stuff is greatly appreciated. I really had fun.

Thanks to the Project Vanity team for inviting me (that's me with Liz at the photo above!).

I was able to take home a pack of their bestseller and it really got me excited. I've used a couple of mask now and I will use them daily to see how it performs on my skin. I'll write a review soon so please watch out for it.

Dr. Morita sheet masks are now available at Watsons and SM Beauty for only P74.00 each. I'm planning on trying out the other variants too like the Triple Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizing Essence Sheet Mask! :D

What about you? Which variant are you most curious to try?

Cheers,
DAWN
