Basic Day to Night Makeup Workshop

Do you have a stash of makeup but don't know how to use it? Bring your makeup bag with you on October 3, 2015 and learn the basics of makeup application in a 3-hour Basic Day to Night Makeup Workshop with makeup artist and stylist Gail Sarion of Sarion Films.

Whether you're a beginner who's just starting to use makeup or someone who already loves to experiment with colors, Gail will walk you through the different makeup products and tools and the basics of appropriate day and night makeup. She will also show you the step-by-step of makeup application and how to transform day makeup to night makeup.

After the demo, you can bring out your own makeup kit for consultation. Whatever existing products you have, Gail will help edit out your kit according to what suits you and give advice on what makeup will work best on your skin tone. She will also share and demo practical makeup tips and tricks.

The Basic Day to Night Makeup Workshop will be held at The Bunny Baker Cafe, Quezon City from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Workshop fee is Php500 only, which is inclusive of cafe snacks and drinks.

About Gail Sarion

Gail Sarion is the Chief Make-up Artist for Sarion Films (an independent production company), In-house Stylist for Alabang Town Center, and Make-Up Workshop Facilitator for corporate personal development programs. She is also a freelance make-up artist for all types of events.

Gail graduated in 2006 from De La Salle University-Dasmariñas with a BS in Applied Biology. She discovered her love for makeup during her second year in college, saving up her weekly allowance to buy make-up and experimenting with different styles in a series of hit-and-miss phases of mismatched colors and “clown-like” makeup. She attended several workshops to improve her skills and develop her personal make-up style, which she describes as, “It’s safe, it’s wearable; it screams but it’s subtle.”

In 2011, with her husband’s encouragement, she started to freelance for events. When she and her husband put up Sarion Films together, she also took over all make-up and styling for their shoots.

In 2014 she started offering Make-up Workshops to companies after receiving good feedback from Sarion Films’ corporate clients who asked her to facilitate make-up workshops for female employees as part of their personality development programs.

Ellana Mineral Cosmetics and Speedy Course PH's Makeup 101 Free Workshop

Hey guys!

Last week I attended the Ellana Mineral Cosmetics and Speedy Course PH's Makeup 101 Free Workshop. It was supposed to be held last December 6 but due to the bad weather, they postponed it for another week. No worries for me since I am free during the weekends. 

Anyway, I was invited by Shane of Speedy Course PH to attend the free workshop and I accepted because I am a fan of Ellana (you can read my reviews on their products here)! What's more, the person conducting the workshop is the founder of the brand, Theresa Carbonel. I love that they do these free workshops because... well, who doesn't want to take advantage of free stuff? Especially when it's something as good as knowing the right ways on applying makeup and you also get to try the products from Ellana. I really appreciate that Ellana Mineral Cosmetics, in partnership with Speedy Course PH, created this free event for those interested in learning the do's and don'ts of makeup.

But what is Speedy Course PH? Well, here's a brief description from their Facebook Page:

Anyway, I'll share with you what happened during the Makeup 101 Workshop.

I arrived late (yikes!) due to the strong rainfall that we encountered on the way to the venue. Thankfully, I didn't miss much! They were already at the foundation part but prior to that, they discussed about skincare and primers. :)

And here's Ms. Theresa Carbonel explaining the different skin tones and the importance of wearing the right shade of foundation.

She's equipped with many of Ellana's awesome products! I was wondering what shade of their mineral foundation she'll use on her model.

Her model, by the way, is Shane! My contact from Speedy Course PH! I just love her skin! It's almost flawless!

Anyway, I can't really go into too much details on this because it's gonna be a very long post... and that's what the workshops are for. *wink* So what I will write on the post are the important details and the tips I learned during the event.

Theresa mentioned using your jawline to swatch the foundation to check if it's the right shade. I believe that's called 'streaking.' If you check the swatches on Shane's jaw below,

 you can really see the difference between the right shade and the wrong one. The shade that disappears on your skin is the right shade for you and it's important that the shade matches your neck because you want your head to look like it's attached to your body. LOL

Theresa worked on half of Shane's face first so we can see the difference. 

Awesome coverage from their mineral foundation! She didn't even use concealers!

 The eyebrows are probably the trickiest part. But she gave us quick tips on how to determine the length and the highest peak of your brows. You'll only need a makeup brush!

Theresa gave us some tips on how to apply brow liners, mascaras and eye liners easily and those are to breathe through your mouth so that your muscles are more relaxed and holding the mirror beneath you (check pic above for reference) so you can see how you're applying your liner without completely closing your eyes.

 And I just have to mentioned how awesome that heating eyelash curler is! All the ones I've tried are failures for me but that one seems really good. Theresa said that that's her fifth one and she's been using that brand for years. She buys them at Hong Kong but I forgot the brand... sorry!

 Contouring is another tricky thing but it really makes a difference in your makeup, especially if you want your face to appear smaller. The letters "E" and "C" will help. Use the letter E for the contour, while the letter C for the highlight. I've made a post regarding their contour kit and you can read it here.

 One of the crowd favorites in the workshop is the lip scrub. It exfoliates your lips for a prettier pout and it tastes great! I already have it in my stash and I'll make a review soon.

The look Theresa was doing is the everyday makeup. Something you can do everyday when you're off to school or work. This look is super easy to do and Theresa even mentioned that she can do this look in around 5 minutes! Anyway, here's a pic of Shane with half of her face all dolled-up!

 An important tip from Theresa so that you don't miss any makeup routine is to start from the top to bottom after applying the foundation. Meaning, you apply the brow part first then eyeshadow until you reach the lip area and add color.

One more tip, when applying lip color, smile! It makes application even so you don't miss the lines of your lips. :D

It's a simple look that's very easy to do. And you get to learn that from the workshop! I do hope that Speedy Course PH would team up with Ellana again so that more makeup lovers like me can experience this as well.

Too Cool For School Cool Girls Make-up Workshop at SM North The Block

Hey loves!

A week ago, I went to Too Cool For School's Cool Girls Make-up Workshop at SM North The Block. I love many of the products I've tried from the brand and I'm fond of the edgy look of the brand compared to many Korean makeup brands.

They have this Dinoplatz Pop-up Store near the center of the first floor of The Block where you can also buy some of their products and this is also where the workshop was held.

There were also some pop-up stores in different floors or areas of the mall though they were only there until June 4th.

There were also some promos available during the event.

The workshop was about how to achieve the glowing yet simple Korean makeup look. 

The chief makeup artist of the brand, Raymond Isais, hosted the tutorial.

He taught us a step-by-step procedure on how to create the look using Too Cool For School products. He explained every detail with clarity and he even inserted a few jokes for added entertainment. I can tell that the audience were enjoying the workshop!

The star of the workshop is the new Dinoplatz CC Cream. There are 3 types:

One has a concealer, one has a highlighter, and the last one has a peachy pink blush.

But I will discuss about this product further on a future review post. ;)

Here's the finished look of the makeover during the workshop. I didn't get a "before" look since I was a bit late. But the model sure looks refreshed and very natural! And she's sooo cute too! :D

Don't you just love the Dinoplatz themed photo wall? It's so quirky and my pink blouse compliments the mint green background!

Super happy I attended the workshop. I'm glad that Too Cool For School makes this kind of events for their customers. 

It's a great way for kikay girls to know the do's and don't of makeup and skincare and it's a great way for us to learn more about the brand and its products. It's also a way for us to meet new friends that share the same interests. Hope to attend more of the workshops! :D

A Makeup Tutorial Session from Clinique PH

Hey everyone!

Last Friday I went to Trinoma because I booked a tutorial session from Clinique Philippines. I get to have a makeover done by one of their consultants and they'll be using Clinique skincare products that suit my skin. Here's what I looked like after the makeover:

I booked this because my friends, Helen and Robin, convinced me to try it out. I wasn't really in the mood to get out of the house during the long weekend but I realized that I'm on the hunt for other skincare products that I can try. I do believe that my current routine is good enough but maybe there are other products out there that can treat my skin problems better. So why not try the workshop and learn what among Clinique's skincare range would work on my skin best. Clinique is, afterall, one of the major brands that focus on skincare and cosmetics.

So before I introduce the products that was used in my session, here are before and after pictures of me:

Haha! I look weird and so dull without makeup! The right photo, on the other hand, looks so colorful and cheery.  

 The consultant tasked to do my skincare and makeup was Cathy. She was hands-on with explaining every product used on me. She knew exactly what to apply as soon as she analyzed my skin. 

And so, here are some of the products that were used in the tutorial. I didn't get to take photos of every product but I made sure to take photos of the ones that were very interesting for me and those that were highly recommended by Cathy.

 Clinique Anti-blemish Solutions

This is the range that deals with the problems I've been encountering for more than a decade. Cathy didn't use all three products though...

...she only used this for my moisturizer. Cathy said this will keep me hydrated without getting my skin very oily. It feels light on the skin!

To add more moisture to my skin, she applied Moisture Surge. It's also light and actually feels like gel made of water. It dries fast when applied and made my skin very soft.

She then applied the Pore Refining Solutions Stay-Matte Hydrator to keep my skin shine-free. I can't really say if this worked since I got oily after 3-4 hours. I dunno if it just didn't work on me or maybe the amount of moisturizers were too much? Not sure but I wish I get to use this more so I can be more accurate in my initial review.

And let's move to the makeup part...

She combined these three foundations to achieve my color wherein Cashew has the highest amount. She also combined their CC Cream. After blending it on my face, she topped it off with powder.

She asked me if I wanted nude eyes or smoky. Of course I chose smoky because I love bold eyeshadows! :P

 She used this for my eye makeup. I was worried just because it's blue. I don't do blue smoky eyes much just because it can get drag-like. In the end, it wasn't too dark but I wasn't fond of the finished look. I guess it was just okay. Not something I would do on me but it's just... okay, I guess. 

 For the lips, she used these very, very beautiful shades—Curviest Caramel and Mightiest Maraschino. Combined, they made an awesome peachy pink shade.

So those are the notable products used for my makeup tutorial with Cathy of Clinique PH. She was so nice to arrange the products she used from the first one she applied to the last one so that incase I decide to purchase some of them, I know how to use them. See the photo below to check it out:

And also, they gave the people who attended the workshops some freebies! Two lucky ones will get full-sized products. Unfortunately, I wasn't one of them. Oh well.

So do check out your favorite brands if they are doing workshops or seminars. You get to learn a lot and discover new products that can help you with your skin or other beauty concerns. I love going to those because I get to learn new stuff everytime about the brand and their products.

My skin's ultimate enemies are my dark spots that I got from blemishes. I'm looking for good products that can help me deal with that and I really, really hope that this can be my ally. It's quite pricey at P4k+ but if it works, then it's so worth it! Time to save up!
