Makeover: Of Overnight Braids and 80's Renditions

Hello ladies!

Finally it's FRIDAY again! The days just seem to pass by so quickly don't they? Anyway, since it's a Friday and we were dismissed early, I thought I'd take some time to write a post.

This is a trial make up look that Dawn and I did. I wanted to try doing overnight curls... which is basically dividing my hair into two and doing a plait and then sleeping on it which I'd let loose the next afternoon with tons of mousse in the hope of getting curly hair. WOOO... I think you get the idea.

AND voila!

Hello to curly big hair.

But, I wasn't too happy with the hair result and thought it to look too Bellatrix/early Hermione rather than pretty and polished. But then again, the hair reminded me of 80's big hair... and coincidentally, I was asked to do the make up for our cluster's presentation during the past Medicine Week.

It's an 80's themed presentation and I had little idea of what to do... and since I was at Dawn's place... what better thing to do than to do a make over/make up trial.

And so... here's my attempt at an 80's pose... not too 80's I think.

And the make up we tried/experimented on for the look.

It actually is more like Kpop met the 80's since Dawn did a double wing. :P

Sorry for the really bumpy face... I've been getting a lot of break outs this September and I have no idea how to remedy them.

SO here are more pictures of the look...

Also featuring in this look is the Targaryen ring. It's just so beautiful... I had to wear it even if it's not with the theme.

So, sad to say I can't post pictures of the make up I did for that event/performance as
1. It involves our professors and they might not like their faces posted in a blog.
2. Not all of the make ups were done by me.
3. I'm not so confident with the looks I did for that night. I mean... by the time we started doing the make ups, it was crunch time so we basically played with a lot of colors and some might not really feel like they work... or something like that. And I don't have Dawn's "magic hands".

So, how did you find our 80's rendition? Any comments? Suggestions? Violent reactions?

Well enjoy your weekend guys!

Cheers,
LIZ

Liz First Trip Out of the Country

Greetings ladies!

How's the weather back home? It's currently evening here in Canada. Today I won't be putting up any reviews or swatches yet since we haven't really gone anywhere but my aunt's neighborhood.

So here's my first trip to Canada...

Did not sleep cause our flight was at 6:20 am going to Hong Kong... I came with my aunt

We left so early that we literally saw the sun rise.

Arriving in Hong Kong Airport, we almost got lost looking for our gate.

I was tempted to visit the many beauty shops in Hong Kong Airport but thought better to not get tempted into buying any. I will splurge once we get the chance to visit MAC here. :) Hehehe.

The flight over was very turbulent. We almost weren't able to get out of seats because the captain would PA every hour to strap in.
Here's our welcoming crew. My two aunts and Father Lorenzo.

We went straight to my Aunt's house in Canada. She lives in what the call stack condos. They say the weather's better now. It's not that cold anymore. Today the temperature is 23 degrees celsius, not that cold, but you'd still need to wear a coat outside.

Here's where my aunt's place is. I wonder why we don't have these kinds of houses in the Philippines.

It's spring time here and as you can see, flowers have started sprouting.

Here's some tulips for Dawn to look at. These belong to my aunt's neighbor.

I'll end my post with this. Tomorrow, which is later this night there, we're going down town to shop and tour. Hopefully, I get to buy make up stuffs already and make a haul post. :)

Cheers,
LIZ

Lack of Sleep + Tons of Exams = Zombies

Hello, this is Liz, you might remember me from a few of Dawn's makeover posts. Well today I'll be sharing with you a little project of mine. Now, I guess Dawn had mentioned before that I'm a Med student well, life as a Medicine student is pretty simple, you eat, you study, you facebook, and you take exams. Period. If you happen to find the time to sleep more than 2 hours a day (which I do instead of studying), and take a bath once a day, and watch television shows then you can live a happy life for 4 years and avoid looking like these characters.

Yes, that person in the middle with the yellow t-shirt is me. And no… this is not some weird random stuff we do. Let me orient you. One of the departments in our faculty decided came up with the idea of having an MTV project showcasing what life as a Med student is like. Since all of the MTVs that our seniors did started out with somebody studying for the exams and all were like just stressed or just happy, we decided that our MTV should be an exaggeration of that stress. Well during those times we were feeling kind of zombie like so we decided to do the MJ’s Thriller. I was asked to do the make up for the shoots.

I found several sites in Youtube on Zombie make up but my favorite is this one by user fumsmusings. I liked the video so much because it teaches you how to make the prosthetics using common household objects. The other videos I checked used the ready-made fake skin or latex which is really expensive for a low budget class project, and which I think is really hard to find here. Check out her other videos for other scary make up tutorials.

Anyway, I wasn’t able to use the prosthetics because of lack of time for the preparation but here are some of my best works for the MTV.

The lead of our MTV, our Michael Jackson! I put minimal gashes on him because he’s supposed to be a newly turned zombie… J

My favorite… Nini the Doll Zombie… I’m scared of (porcelain, life like) dolls, so she was the scariest and the one I’m most proud of. And then there's me beside Nini. The green contact lenses really helped… although you might not notice them here.

The make up was so convincing when we went to the comfort room in the hospital we scared a Medical Technician and a few ladies. Our other classmates were even able to scare a few people on their way home. And best of all, the judges of the MTV praised it!

The film makers were Dice Media Production and they might put up the video on Youtube one of these days so I’ll just ask Dawn to put up the link for you if you’re interested to watch. For now, since I can't upload videos from facebook, here is a link of the trailer. Hope you guys love it!

Cheers,
Liz
