Review : Bare Body Sugaring Wax

Hey lovelies!

A month ago, I received an opportunity to try a locally made sugar wax product. I'm no stranger when it comes to using sugaring wax to remove unwanted body hair, I'm actually a fan of them. I've already tried around 4-5 brands. But what made me interested to grab this opportunity to review this newer/different brand is that it does not need any cloth strips! I'm like, "WOAH!" I've always used cloth strips to pull the wax off my skin so I was so curious on how this new product works...

Bare Body Sugaring Wax
One 200g tub is Php 220.00 and the set of a 200g tub with a 60ml Aloe Soothing Lotion is Php 330.00.

As mentioned, this set of products was sent to me for review. I wasn't paid any compensation other than receiving these products to use for this review. And so, here are my honest thoughts on the product!

From their Facebook Page, they promised the following:

Experience sugaring at its best and easiest.
No fuzz. No strips. No heating.

100% Organic/Natural
100% Safe
Less Pain

What I know about sugar wax is it is indeed made with natural ingredients which makes it safer to use compared to those wax strips made with various chemicals. And I just love how it smells. The sweet honey scent just adds a little pleasant touch to the waxing process... even though I dread the part when I have pull it off... but pain is beauty, am I right? BUT don't you worry too much, from my experience, sugaring is less painful compared to cold strips.

I pretty much have an idea on what to expect with the product except on the part that I won't be needing strips anymore. But for the beginners out there, their Facebook Page provides an easy-to-follow instructions on how to use the sugar wax:

And now, for my experience...
I actually took a shower before I waxed. I made sure my skin was clean. I also used a mild body scrub to get rid of dead skin to try and make the experience even less painful.

As seen in the photo above, the wax is quite thick and very sticky. If you have difficulty in taking out the product, heating it for a 5-10 seconds in the microwave can help. If you're too lazy, this still works without heating! Spreading it on the skin will take time though.

So as instructed, I rubbed my hands with powder and scooped some wax then rolled the wax a little then put it on top of the target area and slowly spread it. Don't make it too thin or the wax will get torn.

Once I pulled the wax...

Tadaaaa! The area is almost hairless! Almost because the shorter hair strands were not pulled off. They are barely noticeable.

The process was clean and no wax was left on the area.

And see, I didn't use any strip! The spread-out wax was in one piece with the hair all in it.

Could I still reuse it though? Well, it was still sticky but the second try wasn't as clean. So yeah, it's still reusable but expect that some hair strands will be left on the area you just waxed.

If there are waxes left on your skin, it can be easily removed with water or a damp towel. Just put some on the area with the wax since it's suggested to not get the waxed area washed for one day.

If your skin is a little sensitive and experience some redness, use the aloe soothing lotion that is included if you get the kit.

It will really make your skin feel better. I don't experience redness but I like using it because of the cooling sensation! :D

Summary:

What I LIKE:

- Less pain than cold strips
- Never experienced any irritations
- Affordable
- Smells good!
- No need to use strips
- Locally available because it is locally made
- Made of natural ingredients
- No need to heat but heating can help make the process easier
- The Aloe Lotion can definitely help in soothing the waxed area

What I DON'T LIKE:

- The tub does not have a list of ingredients

Other than that one thing, this product is all-good! I'm very satisfied with its performance. I only have to wax again after 3 weeks or so. I'm still a sugar wax fan! :D

And btw, here's a tip: If you have very low pain tolerance, I advise that you have a pain reliever or something 30 minutes before you perform your wax session. ;)

And that's my review!
Do you also wax? Do you use sugaring too?

Review : Veet Hair Removal Cream for Sensitive Skin

Hey girls!

Do you wax or shave your legs? I do. I also did that on my arms before but I stopped because I'm not too annoyed with the hair on my arms, unlike those on my legs. You see, I inherited the "balbon" gene or what Filipinos call those that are hairier than most women, so I have experimented on different ways to remove unwanted hair. I've started shaving in high school when I noticed that my leg hair doesn't look pleasant and that when i wear jeans, the hairs become curly! I just have to get rid of them.

I have mentioned before that I prefer waxing when it comes to removing unwanted hair. I still prefer it (because I am not financially equipped to get laser treatments lol) but there are instances that I do not want to feel the pain of waxing. Like, come on. I like that it takes a while for the hair to grow back and that it feels smoother because the hair that grows back is finer, BUT IT'S JUST AWFULLY PAINFUL. Haha! So yeah, there are occasions that I want to have painless days so I go back to shaving and hair removal creams. But if I were to choose from the two, I'd go with the creams.

Why? In my experience, it takes a few days longer for the hair to grow back. The hair is still prickly but I think it's less prickly with creams because I think that the hair is slightly melted from the tip unlike when shaved, the hair is just chopped or sliced off. I'm not sure if my experience is the same as other's though.

The hair removal cream that I use is...

The Veet Hair Removal Cream

It is Php 247.00 (100ml) and Php107.00 (25ml).

Actually, this tube was given to me by the brand, but I have been using their creams before. I think I've only used hair removal creams from 3 brands and Veet is the brand that I have purchased more because it's so easy to find (it's available in Watsons, Mercury Drugstores, SM, Robinsons and other leading supermarkets and department stores nationwide). And of course, because it's very effective. :)

So here are pics of the labels on the box. You can find a short product description, precautions and directions, and ingredients. Please, please, PLEASE read the labels first before using ANY product. :)

The labels at the back of the tube is pretty much the same as what's written on the box.

When you buy this, you'll get a tube of cream and a plastic spatula to remove the hair and cream from the legs.

I like that they include the spatula because some of the creams I have used just instructed to use a towel in removing the hair. It's still effective but the hair on the towel takes time and is pretty much a hassle to remove.

I have sensitive skin so I use the sensitive skin variant. For each variant, there is a different minimum and maximum time you should leave the product on. I saw this instruction on their Facebook page:

See the minimum & maximum minutes for each variant of the hair removal cream:
Normal - 3 minutes (min); 6 minutes (max)
Sensitive - 5 minutes (min); 10 minutes (max)
Dry - 3 minutes (min); 6 minutes (max)
Suprem'Essence - 3 minutes (min); 6 minutes (max)

The cream's scent is quite strong though. I don't like the smell of hair removal creams in general but I do notice that they have almost the same kind of smell. I guess it's because of the chemicals/ingredients used. Veet's is pretty strong though.

So I apply it generously on my legs. After 5 minutes, I removed some hair on test area to see if the hair is ready to be removed.

On the picture you can see that not all hair was removed on the test area so I left the cream on for another 3 minutes.

Sorry if this looks disgusting but I just want to show you that the hair gets melted by the cream. And the spatula is very handy!

And this is what my thigh looks like after I removed the cream and washed it thoroughly (with water only, do not use soaps, especially the perfumed ones). I have sensitive skin so there are those redness that usually appear on my skin. I didn't felt and stingy or tingling sensation. I don't think it's anything to be too concerned about because this is pretty normal for me when I apply or even put pressure on my skin, even when I lightly scratch my skin, it gets all red easily compared to others'. (If you're still concerned, my mom's a doctor and she knows about this ^_^)

And after two weeks, this is what the same thigh looks like. (And yes, it has redness because I wore jeggings that day. Haha!)

As you can see, the hairs have started to grow but the strands are actually fine and not too prickly in my opinion. It's not annoying to touch because the hair isn't rough at all. I am completely satisfied with the performance of Veet and I think I will still use this again when I am not in the mood for a painful wax. ;)

What I LIKE:
- Easy to use

- Painless
- Affordable
- Locally available
- Comes with a spatula
- The tube is easy to squeeze out the product
- Compared to shaving, the hair takes longer to grow and is not as prickly
- Didn't irritate my skin

What I DON'T LIKE:

- Scent

Do you also remove hair using hair removal creams? Any thoughts on this particular one?

Strip It! Hair Removal Chocolate Sugaring

Hey guys!

The heat is so on this summer. Everyone's going swimming to somehow lessen the super hot weather.
Since swimming means showing a few extra skin, we want to be as flawless as possible. One of the things I do is wax and the product I've been using for almost a year now is the Hair Removal Sugaring from Strip It!

But a few days ago, I bought something else.
Not from a different brand! Just a different flavor or scent...

Strip It! Hair Removal Chocolate Sugaring

This flavor has been out for a while but I haven't tried it before since I bought a big tub of the original one before and took a while for me to finish it off. :P

The way on how to use it is still the same. Just visit my review on the original one for more info.

The only difference I found is the smell. This has a chocolatey scent to it. Something the chocolate lovers would love!

This is still as effective as ever. Just check the pictures below:

Back of my hand

Applied the Chocolate Sugaring Wax then placed the cloth...
Don't rub it too much! Just 2 seconds would be fine. :P

Then pull the cloth off!

The wax took out the hairs with less pain as when you use cold strips!

Anyway, I super love Strip It! And this one is a love of mine too. I like the original one and this one equally so I guess I'll take turns buying these.

So anyway, do you use Strip It! Hair Removal Sugaring?
Have you tried the chocolate variant yet?

Cheers!

Review: Strip It! Hair Removal Sugaring

Hey guys!

It's embarrassing for me to say this, but I'm one of the unfortunate women who have some kind of hormonal imbalance.
One of the effects of this is I need to do hair removal stuff just so I can wear a skirt without insecurities!
I've done shaving, used hair removal creams, electric epilator, and different kinds of waxing! I'd do laser if I could afford it!

For now, I do waxing. It removes the hair from the roots so hair growth is slower compared to shaving and creams. New hair is finer too so no irritating, rough feeling! And I only have to do it after 4 weeks!

Before, I shaved. But I hated the rough feeling so I go to waxing salons but it's kind of heavy on the budget. My sis then introduced me to someone who does home service. That's the time I first encountered sugaring. But being a college student back then, it was still expensive for me. So I settled with buying cold strips from departments stores and asked my sister to wax my legs for me.
We even play Lady Gaga's song, "Beautiful, Dirty, Rich" while we wax to numb the pain. It became a ritual to us actually. :P

Now that my sister is staying overseas, I have to wax by myself. And all I can say is...
It is very PAINFUL.
I can only wax my legs right now and turned back to hair removal creams for the other areas.

But a few weeks ago,
I got an email from Arlette of Strip It! Hair removal sugaring.
She asked me if I could try out their product and write a review about it.
I've heard about Strip It! long ago from blogs and other websites and read positive comments about it so, of course, I agreed!

Two days after, I got this set from the mail!

They sent me a mini kit to try the product out!

The kit includes:

A list with descriptions, instructions, helpful tips and a list of their branches

100g tub of the sugaring wax

A wooden spatula for applying the wax

An Aloe Vera Gel to soothe the skin

and 2 packs of reusable cloth
(Yes. They are reusable! Just wash the sugaring off after using! I did this and it still works well the second time around!)

Here's a small description of Strip It! Sugaring from their website:

"STRIP IT" is the BEST ready-to-use hair removal sugaring in the Philippines! SUGARING is also known as Egyptian sugar wax. All natural & water-soluble, so it’s safe to use on the face, body, bikini area, and even on sensitive skin.

So anyway, after taking a shower and used body scrub, I was ready to try it out!
Of course, I readied a nice playlist on which I can sing along to while waxing...

When I first opened the tub...
OMG.
It smells soooo good. Sort of like candy sweet. I like it so much that I want to taste it! Haha!

I then scooped a small amount of product.
It's consistency was a bit thicker than I expected.
But I only needed small amounts since it's easier and less painful to wax when you do it little by little. ;)
But after reading some of the tips, I reheated it on the microwave and it was easier to apply and spread.

Spreading it on my skin is the tricky part for me since I'm doing this on my own, especially on the back of my legs. So I asked my best friend, Liz, to do it for me! Haha!
Anyway, spread it according to the direction of hair growth and then put the cloth on top and rub it a few times and pull it in the opposite direction of hair growth.

*You can read a more detailed instruction on how to use the product on the manual that comes with the kit when you purchase it. There are also very helpful tips to make the waxing experience easier and less painful and more effective!

When I was gonna pull the cloth off for the first time, I closed my eyes, anticipating the very familiar pain I feel whenever I wax. After I pulled it off, I was surprised on the pain difference I felt when I use this and when I used other cold strips! There's less pain! ♥
It also took out all the hair where I spread the sugaring wax. There was no need to re-wax the area on my legs. Though I needed to in areas like the armpits since hair grows more than one direction. :P

Anyway, I also tried it on finer hairs like on the back of my hands...
Yes, I do have hairs there... unfortunately for me... Huhuhu... :(

 See?

 Applied the wax

Rub the cloth for just a few seconds

And voila! It took all the hair out! In just one pull!
Cool, huh?

After waxing, I just needed a wet towel to remove the sticky sugaring product left on my skin! I liked it better than having to rub oil on my skin when I used other cold strips. It feels like my skin can breathe better.

A day later, I believe my skin is softer! I keep touching my legs! Haha!
Turns out, it also exfoliates the dead skin cells and also has moisturizer and lightening qualities!

As I'm writing this review, it has been exactly a week since I waxed using Strip It! Sugaring.
What it claims that it makes skin softer, less chicken skin, and causes less pain are all true!
I've used it on my legs, some areas on my face and on my armpits and 'til now, they are hairless! Yay! Although I'm not entirely sure about the whitening part since I do have fair skin already. :P
I only used half the tub too! Which is sooo good since I have some left for the next session! And it also have a long shelf life, around a year according to their site!

The most important of all is I didn't get any skin irritations! My skin gets irritated easily so I don't experiment much on skin products (except for makeup, haha!). It's probably because the product is all natural, made of sugar and honey (so sweet!)! It states that it is even safe to use on sensitive skin and on the bikini area. I have yet to try that though. :P

What I'm waiting for right now is how much ingrown hairs I'll find when hair grows back. That's the most annoying part when I wax. :P

I fell in love with Strip It!
I've already recommended it with some of my friends, actually. They already asked me to order for them some starter kits when I buy another kit for me. :P

So to summarize this loooooong post:

LIKES
♥ No skin irritations
♥ Made from natural ingredients
