Introducing: The Petal Velvet Sunaway + Review

Hello loves!

I'm just so excited to share this product with you guys.

Just a few weeks ago, I received an email from Althea that they are introducing an item to their Petal Velvet series. If you're not familiar with the line yet, the Petal Velvet started with smooth and silky loose powders. They currently have 3 variants—Translucent, Warm Beige, and Pink Lavender (a limited edition to celebrate the 3rd anniversary of the product). I'll post my review of them soon.

What's distinct in their Petal Velvet powders is the part that they are as soft and smooth as flower petals and introducing a new product in this line made me expect that it can give the same effect as well. With that in mind, I was surprised that the product is a sunscreen!

Introducing the...

Petal Velvet Sunaway

I actually thought that it's like a sunscreen in powder form (because the other products from the line are powders), but it's a cream sunscreen and it promises to give a protection of SPF50 and PA++++. That's a pretty good amount of protection for everyday wear if you're just going to an indoor office. It also promises sebum control, a petal-like complexion, and velvet finish. Interesting, right?

As an Althea Angel, I was able to get my hands on one about a couple of weeks ago along with the rest of the Petal Velvet line. I've been using it everyday since (except during weekends or when I just stay home). In this post, I'll share my review about the product.

But first, let me share the product description from the website:

Shield your skin from the sun's rays and give it some petal protection with Althea's Petal Velvet Sunaway! Ultra lightweight, this invisible sunscreen is formulated with Damask rose extracts, ensuring that your skin stays fresh and hydrated throughout the day without any streakiness or a white cast. It has an SPF of 50+ and PA++++, so your skin'll be kept protected all day. As part of the Petal Velvet line, it also contains micro-powder particles that give you a smooth, petal-like complexion.

How to Use: Apply an even layer onto the skin and allow to absorb into the skin before going out into the sun.

From the press release that was sent to me, the Petal Velvet Sunaway claims that it's made of natural ingredients and is cruelty-free. Plus, it has a micro powder system that helps control sebum production of the skin.

Here's a visual from the press release showing the technology behind the micro powder system:

As for its main ingredient...

Petal Velvet Sunaway contains Damask rose
extracts to moisturize and smoothen the skin.

Damask rose has a natural nanomolecular
composition that is rich in vitamins to penetrate
deep into the skin, soothing sensitivities and
strengthening it for a radiant glow.

Seeing all these information just made me more excited. I was able to read the press release even before the product arrived so I was pretty much excited and anticipating to finally try it.

Sunscreens are a HUGE part of skincare because the sun is actually one of the main factors of skin damage. And now, Althea is presenting a product that's a sunscreen and a moisturizer in one equipped with making your skin feel soft as a flower petal and control excess sebum—what's not to like? That just music to my ears, specially because I have very oily skin.

Now for the review. Let's start with the packaging. It has the same character as the Petal Velvet Powders' design in terms of color and font choices. It has the same pink color as well. The whole look is simple but executed in good taste. It's housed in the rectangular plastic bottle that's very lightweight and the cap does not open easily, which makes it travel-friendly.

Here's a drop of the product. You have to shake, shake, shake before you pour it because when it has been sitting for a long time, you'll see that there's separation between the consistency (there's a runny clear liquid and the thicker cream). I'm not so good with the chemicals so I don't know how they work, but just shake it well before use.

Here's how it look like when you mildly spread it.

When I first saw this, I was afraid of the white cast, specially since it was so white when I saw the first drop. When I spread it, it wasn't that thick at all.

Here's how it looks when I blend it well.

Surprisingly, there's no white cast which is soooo awesome! It smells good too with the floral scent.

It's faithful to its claim in the press release:

I also agree that it makes your skin feel smooth. It feels like I already added a makeup primer on. It also finishes like it's your normal skin. I've used sunscreens that even though there's no white cast, it makes my face shiny or sticky. This one does not give that, it actually feels velvety smooth.

I can also skip moisturizer because I do feel like the hydration this provides is enough for my skin. But the best one of all is the part that it gives sebum control. I can go half a day and my face doesn't get shiny at all! It's really amazing! It's really is one of the best items with oil control that I've tried so far.

I can only sing praises to this product because I just can't seem to find something I don't like. I keep on telling about it to friends and officemates because I'm so amazed by it. And for only PhP 480.00? I think it's worth every centavo.

So to summarize:

What I LIKE about it:
- SPF50 and PA++++
- Smooth, velvety finish,
- Sebum control
- Keeps skin hydrated
- No whitecast
- Lightweight
- Non-sticky
- Blends easily
- Smells good (floral)
- Nice packaging
- Affordable
- Easy to avail via Althea website

What I DON'T LIKE about it:
- None so far

And that's it for my review. So as you can see, I'm head over heels with this product and I highly recommend it. Try it out and see for yourselves and hopefully you will like it as much as I do.

Right now, there's a promo wherein you can get a Petal Velvet set (Sunaway + Powder) at 10% off at the Althea website! You can also buy a Petal Velvet Sunaway and avail free shipping! Woooot!

Let me know if you've tried it and tell me what you think about it on the comments below!

Cheers,
DAWN
