Review: Daiso Make-Up Brush Cleaner + Giveaway

Good evening ladies!

As many of you already know, Dawn and I are fans of Daiso products for our everyday tools and what not. So as I was shopping to restock my usual Daiso items (among other things) this caught my eye...

I have to admit that it has been a long time since I washed my make-up brushes and it's only now that I got to washing them again, and mainly because I wanted to try this brush cleaner.

Here's the product information at the back. It has an English instructions but for you who cannot read it well, here's what it says:

• Remove dirt from the make-up brush and puff to keep the cleanser clean. Wash the brush and puff on a regular basis in order to use it longer. No damage user's skin. Easy to clean.

For the How to wash brushes instructions I will incorporate the pictures I took while following said instructions and input my comments at the end. :)

HOW TO WASH BRUSHES

• Put the cleaner into the container (I assumed any basin would do), and dip the brush thoroughly.

• Wash it like drawing a circle with running water.
• Dry it with a towel and then arrange ends of the wool. Lastly, dry again naturally.

Obviously I did not follow the second instruction as I used their egg sponge which made everything really easy.

I find that this product is very water-conserving. I know the instructions says dip thoroughly, but I actually just dipped the tip of a dry brush and scrubbed it straight into the egg sponge. To my amazement, even that small amount was able to create a lot of lather and easily cleaned my brushes clean. In retrospect it must have been a wiser decision to take a picture of my white haired brushes so you can see how it really cleans it well.

However, I did find that this product works well with brushes you use for powders, blushes and compacts but not so much for liquids and creams. I used this for my Laneige BB cream puff and it did little to remove all the BB cream stains and unused product in the puff. 

For lipstick brushes, it lathers up less than it does for the other products (see above picture) but it removes most of the creamy and sticky residues on the brush (see picture below).

It does not remove the color stains as well as it does for powder, blush, and compact brushes but it does the job well.

It rinses off quick too. I am used to using hair shampoo for cleaning my make-up brushes and I find that this wastes too much water, it doesn't lather up as quick and it takes so much to rinse off. I also tried the joy + oil combination for cleaning brushes and although that really does a deep cleaning of the brushes, it also wastes a lot of water during rinse off.

After drying the brushes, both synthetic and real hair brush feel smooth and clean. So it can be used for any type of brushes.

How much? It's a Daiso product so it costs around Php 88 for a 150 mL bottle. If you don't have a lot of brushes to clean, I think it can last you for at least 2-3 months depending on how often you wash them. If you have a lot of brushes, it can probably last 1 month. It's small size is a big let down, and also the variability of it's availability per branch makes it hard to find. I found this at Robinsons Ermita branch and I hope they stock up on it in other branches as well.

Laverne Makeup and Cosmetic Tools Sanitizer

Hey loves!

I've been struggling with acne since I hit puberty. I've trained myself to proper hygiene and skincare to avoid those dreaded breakouts. When it comes to makeup application, I make sure I have clean makeup applicators. I try to avoid double dipping my brushes, especially when I use liquid/cream products. But did you know that our makeup can also be a breeding ground for bacteria  even if you close it tightly?

Why take the risk of getting breakouts, allergies, and other health infections if we can just improve our hygiene and use products that sanitize our makeups and applicators? I am too familiar of those consequences since I have skin allergies and oily and acne-prone skin. With those in-mind, I'm happy that products like the Laverne Makeup and Cosmetic Tools Sanitizer are being introduced in the market.

So what exactly is the product about? The following are the product highlights from the press release provided when they sent me these two bottles:

1. Laboratory test confirmed a 99.9% kill in germs and bacteria like E.coli and Staph (they've undergone a series of tests for almost a year).
2. After spray, the product instantly dries in seconds leaving the makeup sanitized and ready for next use.
3. Infused with special emollients that won't dry your makeup unlike regular alcohol. Instead, it leaves your makeup smelling and looking fresh every time.
4. Helps extend the life span of your makeup.
5. Has tea tree to help eliminate bacteria and helps to clarify skin problems.

According to the press release, the main reason why Laverne was conceptualized is because "we want all the makeup artists and the likes to learn how important sanitation in makeup is. Even if we use the makeup as personal use, there are still germs and bacteria that are present and breeding in their makeup. We want #Laverne to be the new habit of beauty enthusiasts."

Yes, yes, and YES! I remember back in high school when we were having our makeup applied for our graduation picture, I saw that our makeup artist's sponges were so dirty. Like all 20 girls used the same sponge, brushes, and makeup. It's crazy! I hurried to take my makeup off as soon as I had my photo taken. This is why I did my own makeup when I was getting my college graduation photo taken. An awesome decision since I heard the same story of dirty, already-used sponges from my friends who had their makeup done at the studio. I really do hope that more makeup artists and makeup enthusiasts clean their tools and makeup often.

I'm not saying I haven't been guilty of any of these unhygienic practices. I was and sometimes still am. But now I try to clean my brushes after I use them and now that I have Laverne, I get to clean my makeup too!

I used a tissue there but I learned that a small towel is even better since it won't tear easily and more environmentally friendly since you can just rewash it. ;)

I used a liquid foundation there so that's harder to clean but Laverne was able to do a good job cleaning the brush!

Here's how I spray it on my powder products:

I used it on a powder blush. In the video, you can see how fast Laverne dries after spray.

Other than cleaning tools and makeup, the Laverne Makeup and Cosmetic Tools Sanitizer can also be used to restore your cracked face powder. You can see the instructions online and substitute rubbing alcohol to Laverne. Awesome, right?

Another thing I can do with this is that it can make your drying gel liners easier to use. I just wet my eyeliner brush and dip it to my gel liner. The dry gel gets softer and makes application easier! Hooray for the gel eyeliner fans out there!

Laverne is so easy to use, especially since it's in a spray bottle. Just spray and wait if you're using it on makeup, and spray and swirl when using it to clean makeup brushes. It also dries so quickly that I don't have to wait long to reuse the tools I'll be using. And oh, I also like that the smell is so mild and clean! It's cleaning with ease and you get to prevent all those nasty breakouts and allergies from happening too! #Laverne truly is where beauty meets hygiene. I'm glad that I have this in my beauty stash.

Too Cool For School Pink Shower Brush Cleanser

Hi gorgeous!

As a makeup lover, washing my makeup brushes and sponges has been a part of my routine for years now. Since I do this very often, I try to find ways to clean them in the most affordable but still effective way possible. I've been using an anti-bacterial dish washing liquid soap from Saizen for a while now and it's very effective—removes all the makeup and no shedding from the brushes. Even though I already like that product, I'm open to try others too. So when I was at Too Cool For School, SM North, I saw this brush cleanser that looked very interesting... 

Too Cool For School Pink Shower Brush Cleanser

This 150ml bottle is Php 279.00.

It's really affordable that's why I bought it... and I guess because it's pink! Haha! :P 

Anyway, let's see what the product is about from the Japan website:

Brush dedicated Cleanser is a brush dedicated detergent to be used as a brush can be a safe and clean storage. Clean and wash the dirt that is easy induce skin problems, it is allowed to maintain the shape of the brush, you can extend the life of the brush. I can also be used to puff. After the cleansing, please use rinsed lightly.

How to Use:

Give an appropriate amount to brush and wash gently. After washing, I rinse with warm water.

It smells mild but really good. It's like you're just using water. It doesn't foam but you can see the makeup melting from your brushes. It seemed really good until I tried removing liquid makeup like BB Cream and foundations. It barely removed the foundation off my brushes and sponges, although I guess I use heavy-coveraged products so cleaning is a bit harder... but on the other hand, that's what this product is for, right? Anyway, you can still see that some of the makeup melted but it can't remove even half of it. I still had to use other products. In short, this is okay in removing light products from the brushes like powder, but for liquid makeup, it's close to useless. :(

And those are my thoughts on this product. Have you tried this before?
