Tutorial Request : Semi-Spider Lashes

 Heyyyy lovely readers!!!

Almost a month ago, I got a tweet from a dear friend to do a tutorial for this!!!

Tadaaaa!!

Here's her tweet:
As you can see, she asked for a Spider Lashes Tutorial but the title says I only did a Semi-Spider Lashes look. To tell you the truth, it was hard for me to leave my lashes all clumped up together. I just can't do it!! Haha! I don't find it attractive... I'm sorry. So I do hope that my dear friend, Neysa, would be contented with this look that I did for her and I hope you enjoy reading this post.

Spider Lashes is actually something one should avoid when doing her/his makeup. It's when your lashes get all clumpy and stick together looking like actual spider legs. But there are times that this look is sported usually in creative makeup or fashion runway looks.
So on to the tutorial! I want to do a video but I don't have a good video camera and my laptop webcam sucks. Oh well. This will be my first ever makeup tutorial so please be nice. Haha! :)

Start with a clean face!

Curl your lashes with your trusted eyelash curler
(Mine is a Shu Uemura Eye Lash Curler... it's been one of my makeup bestfriends for over 6 years now!).

Now for the key instrument for this look...

Get a mascara that volumizes and lengthens. If you don't have any that does both, you can use two mascaras that specializes in each.

I am using Benefit They're Real Mascara which I recently made a review about.

 Apply a quick coat first.

Then concentrate at the base of the lashes to create more volume which will result to this...

And then when it dries, lengthen the lashes and apply 2 or more coats until satisfied... work your way to the corner lashes of your eyes... don't forget to put some on your lower lashes as well!

I added 2 more coats and got this result.

This is the most Spider-Lashes-Like look that I would do but can still pass off as something 'wearable'. But if you really want to make it look like SPIDER LEGS then go ahead and apply some more coats of mascara!

You don't really need to use this brush for this tutorial but if you don't want too many clumps, then, sure, comb away! :P

Using a cotton bud with makeup remover, clean up the messy areas.

I took out some of the flaky areas of my lashes using the comb. I have a feeling that those will eventually fall off and cause some smudging.

But of course, I wouldn't stop there! I'm just that too over-the-top sometimes. :P

Using a black pencil liner, tight line your eyes really carefully.

I put some at my lower lash line too to create a more volume effect.

Using a white pencil liner, apply it on your inner rims to brighten up those eyes.

And here are some photos of the result!

When you're done with your eye makeup, continue on with the rest of your face...

I applied a very mild pink blush and paired it with a bright, bold pink lipstick.
And that's it! I'm ready to go out and shop! Haha!

That's all for this tutorial. I do hope this post kind of helped in its own little way. If you ever do this look, just ready your most trusted makeup remover because using a waterproof mascara for this look can make removing the makeup very difficult. Good luck! :P
Anyway, I'm open to do more tutorial posts so just comment below for requests!

Cheers!

Review : Benefit They're Real! Mascara

 Hello Makeup Lovers!

Having long, full lashes can really make a big difference in enhancing the beauty of our eyes. That's why I came to love mascaras and falsies. But using falsies are tedious to apply so having really good mascaras is important for me.

I do have a good set of natural lashes but that doesn't stop me to enhance them further with mascaras. I'm quite particular with the ones I use and I never forget to apply them on my lashes when I go out. When I'm in a hurry, I just coat my lashes with some mascara and that's it for my eye makeup!

So when Liz went to Canada this summer, I asked for all sorts of makeup as my pasalubong but I never asked for a mascara since I'm scared that what she would have gotten wouldn't be something I'd like.

After a month when she got back, she did got me a mascara. I was quite surprised because she got me something quite pricey because I know she's on a budget because she has so many people to shop for. Haha!

Anyway, she got me this:
 Benefit They're Real! Mascara

This one is the smaller version. Only. 4g while the regular size is around 8.5g.
The regular size one is around Php 1,600.00.

Here are the details from the box:

And some more info from the website:

They're real! lengthens, curls, volumizes, lifts & separates. Our jet black, long-wearing formula won’t smudge or dry out. A specially designed brush reveals lashes you never knew you had!

How to Apply

Position wand horizontally & wiggle from side to side, base to tip, to achieve maximum volume, length & lift. Hold wand vertically & stroke upward to curl & separate. Layer generously as desired.

All I can say when I saw the description was... WOW. It promises all the things I look for in a mascara. So it really boosted up my expectation so high that I quickly opened and tried it out.

I like the packaging. It's different from most of the mascaras out there. It looks so sleek. Plus, the labels don't chip-off! :P

Life span of it is 6 months. Quite longer than some mascaras. So that is quite nice. :P

Here's the brush.

It's quite large. I have gotten used to big wands because of my Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara that I love so much. I like that it has a lot of bristles that it combs the lashes to avoid it to clump together. It's quite big which gives me a little difficulty to get to the corner lashes which are shorter.

Here are shots of before and after application of the product:
Bare eyes

When I curl my lashes

With one coat.
The mascara is quite wet so it pulls down my lashes but what surprised me is it curls back up again.
Now that I have been using it more often, it doesn't pull them down anymore.

With 2 coats.
It dries up very fast so with more than 2 coats, it gets clumpy.

This is with more than 2 coats. I was asked to make a pretty spider lash effect which I will post about soon.

From the pictures, you can tell that it did lengthen and volumized my lashes. But did it look like I had falsies on? Not exactly. Close enough but it doesn't deliver the perfect plumped and evenly separated lashes that falsies give.

As for it's lasting power, it's supppppeeeer great! No smudging and no flaking! ♥

Though like most mascaras I own that are waterproof, it's super hard to remove. Be ready with your favorite makeup removers and be patient with wiping the product off. Haha! :P

LIKES:
♥ Lengthens and volumizes my lashes
♥ Long lasting - no smudging and flaking
♥ Love the packaging
♥ Available locally
♥ Wand has bristles that avoids the lashes to clump together
♥ Longer life span than other mascaras

DISLIKES:
 ♥ Expensive
♥ Wand can be a little difficult to work with

Will I buy again? I would if it would be on sale. Haha! It's still quite expensive for me and I believe that there are more affordable mascaras that can deliver almost the same results.I wish they offer a huge discount on this sometime after a few months! Haha! I will stalk Benefit PH's Facebook page and Twitter! Haha! ♥

Have you tried Benefit They're Real! Mascara yet? What do you think about it?
Any other mascaras that you like or deliver the same results?

Cheers!
